Confirmation is one of the initiation sacraments, along with Baptism and Eucharist. This sacrament is called Confirmation because the faith given in Baptism is now confirmed and made strong. During your Baptism, your parents and godparents made promises to renounce Satan and believe in God and the Church on your behalf. At Confirmation, you renew those same promises, this time speaking for yourself. This comes with the responsibility of not just following Jesus Christ but spreading the Good News as Confirmed disciples.
Confirmation is not:
- Graduation from Faith Formation classes Claim of adulthood in the Church
- Single affirmation of the Catholic religion Decision to be or not be Catholic
Confirmation begins in September each year by being registered and participating in the youth program “The Way”. A child may begin the process of preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation as early as 15 years old and in 10th grade. Preparation for Confirmation is comprised of learning about our Catholic faith, exploring your relationship with God and developing close relationship with your parents/guardian and sponsor as you begin your preparation. In addition to the Sunday “The Way” youth program, confirmation youth are required to attend one Confirmation Retreat and one child/sponsor workshop during the year. Registration opens in the summer of each year and classes begin in September.
