Confirmation is one of the initiation sacraments, along with Baptism and Eucharist. This sacrament is called Confirmation because the faith given in Baptism is now confirmed and made strong. During your Baptism, your parents and godparents made promises to renounce Satan and believe in God and the Church on your behalf. At Confirmation, you renew those same promises, this time speaking for yourself. This comes with the responsibility of not just following Jesus Christ but spreading the Good News as Confirmed disciples.
Confirmation is not:
- Graduation from Faith Formation classes Claim of adulthood in the Church
- Single affirmation of the Catholic religion Decision to be or not be Catholic
Confirmation is a one year process. A child may begin the process as early as 15 years old. Preparation for Confirmation is comprised of learning about our Catholic faith in our Sunday program, using workbooks about the sacraments and reviewing with their parent/guardians at home including one confirmation retreat and one child/sponsor workshop during the year. Registration opens in the summer of each year and classes begin in September. Confirmation is scheduled in late winter/early spring.
To register, please do so, online with your Parish Soft login. If you are new to the area, please contact Joyce at 434-792-9456.
